Science, technology and curiosity in action — from kindergarten to lower secondary
Scientastic brings interactive science workshops directly into your school. Designed for kindergarten, primary and lower-secondary classes, our workshops invite pupils to explore science and technology the way scientists do: by observing, handling, experimenting and asking questions.
Since 1994, Scientastic has combined interactive exhibitions, participatory shows and science workshops. Today we focus this experience on mobile workshops delivered in your classroom, with the same goal: spark curiosity, make science concrete and give pupils the joy of understanding.
The spirit of our workshops: active pupils, real hands-on experiments, accessible discoveries and a joyful approach to learning. Each workshop covers a wide age range: its content, vocabulary and challenges are adapted to the level of the class and to your learning goals.
Workshops are given in English (or in French).

Your workshop leader
Baudouin, founder of Scientastic

For more than thirty years, Baudouin has shared one passion with children, teenagers and families: discovering science through wonder, observation and experimentation.
As founder of Scientastic, he designed and ran in Brussels an interactive science exhibition that welcomed more than 500,000 visitors. From the very beginning, Scientastic also created workshops, demonstrations and shows so that visitors could handle, test, question and understand for themselves.
Each workshop is a lively, structured and joyful session. Pupils really experiment, make hypotheses, compare their ideas, sometimes get it wrong, try again, and build their understanding of the world step by step.
The workshops
Unless stated otherwise, each workshop lasts 2 × 50 minutes. Content is adapted to the age and level of the class.
The Five Senses
Ages: 5 (kindergarten) – 9
Topics: sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell
Duration: 2 × 50 min
A playful exploration of the five senses: pupils observe, listen, touch, smell and taste in complete safety, and discover how their body perceives the world. Older pupils go further with sensory challenges and first scientific explanations of how our senses and brain work together.

Magnets and invisible forces
Ages: 6 – 14
Topics: magnetism, attraction and repulsion, forces at a distance, electromagnetism, technological applications
Duration: 2 × 50 min
Younger pupils attract, sort and move objects without touching them. Older pupils explore attraction, repulsion and action at a distance, represent magnetic fields, and discover the link between magnetism, electricity and everyday technology.

Journey into vibrations
Ages: 6 – 10
Topics: sound, vibrations, propagation, pitch and loudness, hearing
Duration: 2 × 50 min
Through playful, hands-on experiments, pupils discover that sound is a vibration travelling through air and materials, and explore what makes a sound high or low, loud or soft.

Self-driving cars with Thymio robots
Ages: 8 – 14
Topics: robotics, sensors, programming, algorithms, conditions, loops, testing and debugging
Duration: 2 × 50 min
Pupils discover how a Thymio robot gathers information with its sensors and reacts to instructions, and understand that a self-driving car follows programmed rules rather than “thinking” like a human. Older pupils program the robot (with Blockly for 12–14) to follow a road, detect an obstacle, slow down or stop, and learn to test and debug.

Mirrors, lenses and light: the secrets of optics
Ages: 8 – 12
Topics: light, reflection, refraction, mirrors, prisms, lenses
Duration: 2 × 50 min
Pupils experiment with reflection using mirrors, refraction with prisms and magnifying glasses, and discover how lenses concentrate light rays.
I can’t believe my eyes!
Ages: 6 – 14
Topics: visual illusions, perception, the brain, critical thinking
Duration: 2 × 50 min
Surprising visual illusions show that our eyes are not a simple camera: the brain interprets, completes and compares the information it receives. Older pupils analyse ambiguous images, contrasts and perceived motion, for a scientific and critical approach to images.

3D printing: from idea to object
Ages: 10 – 15
Topics: 3D design, digital fabrication, geometry, engineering constraints
Duration: multi-week project + one guided session of 50–55 min
Pupils discover 3D design by creating their own object, from digital drawing to printed piece. Older pupils take on an engineering challenge, such as designing a whistle or a hinged object that works within the real constraints of 3D printing.
