More than 30 years of hands-on science in Brussels and beyond
Our story
Scientastic is a non-profit organisation founded in Brussels in 1994 by Baudouin Hubert. Its mission: to motivate young people of all ages to discover, observe and experiment with the world scientifically.
From 1994 to 2012, Scientastic ran a 1,000 m² interactive science exhibition in the Bourse metro station, two minutes’ walk from the Grand Place. It welcomed more than 500,000 visitors, up to 50,000 a year in its final years, and became one of Brussels’ popular attractions. Visitors’ tickets covered more than 95% of the budget: Scientastic showed that a hands-on science venue can thrive without depending on subsidies.
In 2012 Scientastic lost its premises, and its exhibition of more than 100 interactive exhibits was destroyed. Scientastic continues its mission today through science workshops in schools, festival activities and consulting for science centres, and plans to open a new exhibition in a new venue.

Professional networks
euRobotics, the European robotics association. Scientastic is a member of euRobotics, which brings together the robotics community in Europe. Robotics is at the heart of our school workshops, where pupils program Thymio robots to behave like self-driving cars.
Ecsite, the European network of science centres and museums. Scientastic was a member of Ecsite, where Baudouin gave a conference talk on how to design good interactive exhibits.
Brussels Museums Council (Conseil Bruxellois des Musées). Scientastic is a member of the council that brings together the museums of the Brussels region.
Festivals and events
Summer Space Festival, Tour & Taxis, Brussels (2026). On our stand, visitors could physically feel the force needed to keep a “satellite” in orbit. From this simple experience, they discovered how gravity bends the path of an object coming from interstellar space, such as ʻOumuamua, the mysterious visitor discovered in 2017.
I Love Science Festival, Brussels (several editions). Hands-on science activities for families, including an online session of experiments to do at home during the 2021 edition.
