Visiting Brussels? Scientastic offers an unusual tour of the Grand Place and its surroundings. As well as the famous landmarks, you will experience them with all your senses: we treat them not only as historical and cultural sites, but also as real sensory experiments.

• The statue of Everard t’Serclaes: can you guess, blindfolded, which parts have been polished golden by the thousands of tourists who rub it every day?
• The Grand Place façades: are the buildings really as symmetrical and regular as they seem? We put your senses to the test.
• The gilding: we look together at the gold decorations on the buildings, a chance to explore some chemistry, physics and perception. What exactly is the colour gold? What makes it different from orange, brown or yellow?
• Manneken Pis: what is its jet of water really made of? Are you sure your eyes are not fooling you?
